Redford’s fire department will be able to gather important patient information more efficiently thanks to Matick Chevy.

The dealership celebrated the department and the Redford Commission on Children’s Issues Monday at its Cruze In For a Cause event. Dozens of township residents participated and got a chance to check out a fire engine and rescue vehicle, among others.

Matick General Manager Molly Williams presented a $1,000 check to the department to kick off the evening.

“We are super thankful for all they do for us,” Williams said. “We have a great working relationship with them. We believe in the Redford police and fire departments. They’re top-notch.”

Chief Scott Demoff said funds will be used to purchase and install scanners in the township’s two rescue units. Instead of having to get the information from people who are often hurt or sick, he said paramedics will be able to scan driving licenses and identification cards. Demoff said it will save time and improve accuracy for records and billing purposes.

“George Matick has always been a good supporter of the community,” Demoff said.

Matick, the GM Chevy Dealer of the Year for 2014 and 2015, has invested $7 million in the dealership over the past several years. Owner Karl Zimmermann plans to expand the site, which sits at the corner of Telegraph Road and I-96, to include mobility vehicle operations.

Monday’s event was billed as family friendly. A half dozen Redford firefighters turned out to showoff vehicles and talk about fire safety with children.

Lt. Adam Pielecha said firefighters enjoyed the opportunity to interact with the public.

“Anytime we can hang out with the kids and show off the trucks,” he said, “it’s one of our favorite things to do.”

Besides meeting the firefighters, children got a chance to enjoy several bounce houses inside the dealership. Free hot dogs and hamburgers were also served.

“We always enjoy activities that bring the community together,” Williams said.

For Demoff, Monday’s event meant a lot. He said residents have gone out of their way to show their appreciation for the department.

“It’s nice to see people support the police and fire departments,” Demoff said. “It really does help us.”
