• Service all heating systems and all gas-, oil- or coal-burning appliances by a technician annually.
• Install a battery-operated and electric-powered carbon monoxide detector in your home and check or replace the battery when you change the time on your clocks each spring and fall. If the detector sounds, leave your home immediately and call 911.
• Contact a doctor if you believe you have carbon monoxide poisoning.
• Do not use gas-powered devices such as a generator, grill or stove inside your home, basement or near a near a window or door. Generators should be operated more than 15 feet from the home.
• Do not run any gas-powered motor inside a closed structure, such as a garage.

Canton firefighters are investigating a Tuesday night shed fire that spread to a home and then damaged a neighboring residence on Claymore Drive.
Fire Chief Christopher Stoecklein said firefighters were called to the scene northwest of the Sheldon and Warren roads intersection at about 9:33 p.m.
Interior and exterior crews fought the flames.
Earlier this month, the Canton Fire Department was awarded full accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.
Officials from the department appeared before a 10-person CFAI panel at the Center for Public Safety Excellence annual conference, for the final phase of accreditation approval.

The location for the upcoming meeting in Junction City will be at 3806 Rucker Rd. Exit 295 I-70 north on US 77 for 3.4 miles turn left at Rucker Rd and go west on Rucker for 1.5 miles, driveway located on North side of Rd. Signs will be located at the entrance of the drive. Lunch will be provided starting at 12:00 and the meeting starting around 1:00.

Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries 10/26/20 - IAFF Local 902
In half of reported home fires in which smoke alarms were present but did not operate, the batteries had been removed or the alarm was disconnected due to dead battery alerts or nuisance alarms. Working smoke alarms decrease the risk of dying in reported home fires by nearly half according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

W. Ponds Circle Structure Fire 10/18/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
On Thursday October 15, 2020 at 10:30 a.m., Local Members responded to a fire inside a condominium on W. Ponds Circle in Unincorporated Arapahoe County. Initial reports stated a fire started in the bathroom of the home and may have extended into the attic space. When members from Engine 13 arrived on scene, they could not see any active fire from the outside of the condo.
Hampden Ave. Car into a Building 10/18/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 11:54 p.m. on Saturday October 10, 2020, Local members responded to a report of a car crash into a building on E. Hampden Ave. in Cherry Hills Village. When members arrived on scene, they found a car had gone off the roadway and crashed into a Caribou Coffee store. Crews extricated the driver inside the vehicle and took that person to the hospital in critical condition.
U-Haul Forklift Accident 10/18/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 7:46 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2020, Local members responded to an entrapment at the U-Haul facility located at 1750 E. County Line Road in Douglas County. Upon arrival, members found a forklift on its side with the driver trapped underneath it. Paramedics immediately began treating the injured person while lifting and stabilizing equipment was put in place.

A marathon of hose. 26.2 miles. 138,435 feet. Stretched by the crew of Engine 33 in a self-challenge to be better at their job. What started as a funny idea in January became a reality by October. They did it. And they’re still going.
10 months of walking, crawling and running with hose during a variety of basic, advanced and unheard-of scenarios.
DAD's Landfill Brush Fire 10/18/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 12:06 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020, Local members responded to a brush fire at the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site landfill, located at 3500 S. Gun Club Road. An electrical problem on a power pole sparked a small grass fire that quickly grew to over an acre. Workers at the facility used fire extinguishers and heavy equipment including water tenders and tractors to fight the fire.

At 4:40 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2020, Local members responded to 8109 Blakeland Drive to assist Douglas County Sheriff Deputies with investigating a suspicious package. The building was evacuated, a unified command was established, Hazardous Materials Technicians went through a medical status check and geared up to go inside.

Upon arrival, NFD found a vehicle that had crashed into the rear yard of a residence after leaving the parking lot behind the Holy Trinity Church on Washington Street. One occupant was evaluated and transported.
