    PREVENTING CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING

    • Service all heating systems and all gas-, oil- or coal-burning appliances by a technician annually.

    • Install a battery-operated and electric-powered carbon monoxide detector in your home and check or replace the battery when you change the time on your clocks each spring and fall. If the detector sounds, leave your home immediately and call 911.

    • Contact a doctor if you believe you have carbon monoxide poisoning.

    • Do not use gas-powered devices such as a generator, grill or stove inside your home, basement or near a near a window or door. Generators should be operated more than 15 feet from the home.

    • Do not run any gas-powered motor inside a closed structure, such as a garage.

    • Do not heat a home with a gas oven.

The new deal will increase wages by 16.5% plus a COLA which is based on next year’s inflation rate. This equates to a cumulative wage increase of 17.6% over the term of the contract, plus the COLA adjustment. The contract also includes retroactive pay, yearly company provided pension increases, medical benefit cost controls with modest monthly contribution increases, the recognition of Martin Luther King Jr as a holiday and the agreement addresses job security concerns of members in at risk job titles. All other key language in the collective bargaining agreement was also retained.

    Crazy Weather - Work Safe
07/23/22 - International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 21
It has been a crazy start to the weekend with this morning’s severe storms, flooding, tornadoes, and may continue with the forecasted high humidity and additional storms.  Stay safe and follow all of your employer’s safety guidelines. Whether you are working for your employer or helping your friends and neighbors remember, the most dangerous hazards can be the ones we don’t see. The IBEW was founded by Henry Miller who fought for safer working conditions. Miller’s last job was for the Potomac Electric Light and Power Co. in Washington, D.C. The night he died, he was trying to restore power after a storm when, according to an 1896 issue of the Electrical Worker, “he came into contact with a high-tension wire carrying 2,200 volts and received a shock knocking him off the pole.”
