  • Fire breaks out at Farmington Hills collision shop
    Posted On: Feb 56, 2020

A fire broke out at a Farmington Hills collision shop. Fire officials say there were no injuries. Hometownlife.com

A Farmington Hills collision shop fire that slowed traffic during the Wednesday morning commute appears to have been accidental, according to fire officials.

"During our investigation, it was noted that the damage to the structure could have been far worse," Fire Marshal Jason Baloga wrote in an email. "Since many of the interior doors were closed the fire was not able to spread to the rest of the building."

He emphasized that closing doors and having working smoke alarms can make a huge difference.

Firefighters were called around 8 a.m. to 8 Mile Collision and Fiberglass, 32440 Eight Mile, on the report of a fire. Crews arrived to the shop between Orchard Lake and Farmington roads and discovered heavy black smoke within the structure.

They began fighting the fire, requiring a hookup to the nearby fire hydrant.

Baloga said there were no injuries and crews were still determining the extent of the damage. It appeared most of the damage was in the office area, where visible fire damage could be seen from the sidewalk.

The fire response team blocked off part of westbound Eight Mile to fight the fire, though traffic was still able to pass going westbound.
