One Livonia family has been displaced this December after a fire did minor damage to their Castle Gardens home early Monday morning.
The Livonia Fire Department was dispatched at about 7:15 a.m. Monday to the 15000 block of Houghton on the report of a possible fire that had broken out at the home.
Livonia fire inspector Keith Bo said no one was injured in the fire, which caused minor damage in the home's living room area.
"Just around the chimney area in the living room," he said. "It's under investigation still."
No other property was substantially damaged, Bo said, but he said the family would probably not be able to live in the home until after Christmas. The family was alerted to the fire by a working smoke detector, Bo said.
Bo said while this fire doesn't appear to have to do with anything holiday-related, he said families should be careful as the holidays approach, especially if they have a real Christmas tree.
"Just make sure if you have a real tree in your house, keep it well-watered," he said. "Keep candles and open flames away from your trees."
